Prep Guide

I’m looking forward to your session

You probably already know this but I get excited about every single session that I do, I absolutely love my job. I also want to thank you for inviting me into your family's space at this special time.

This guide is your go-to for what to expect in your session and how to prepare so we can get the best possible photos.

The Photography Session

My newborn sessions usually take about 1.5 - 2hrs. This allows us plenty of time to stop for feeds and nappy changes when needed. Along with the photographs of your baby I also love to get some shots of the whole family, mum and baby, dad and baby and sibling shots (if applicable).

STUDIO

My home studio is at 28 Tetta Street, Augustine Heights. I will have the room quite warm so bub can be comfortable and nice and sleepy. I would recommend wearing layers so you don't get too hot.

You don't need to bring anything specific for your baby to wear as I have everything we need however if you have something special you would like to incorporate you are more than welcome to bring it.

It’s ideal for your baby to have a nice big feed before we start. You're welcome to do that at the studio. You’re also welcome to park in the driveway.

What to wear

I want you to feel beautiful, comfortable and relaxed, and for your photographs to reflect that too. Clothing is really important to the overall feel of your images, but rest assured I’m here to help. Please keep in mind these are just recommendations and to take what you want from it. You know your family and style the best but if you are interested, here are some of my tips.

START WITH MUM
Often it’s easiest to start with yourself. You can either borrow a dress from my client wardrobe below or pick something yourself. Start with a piece you love and feel beautiful in and coordinate the rest of the family from there.

MOVEMENT + TEXTURE
Movement is the secret to relaxed and natural looking images. You can accentuate this by having some clothing that has a bit of flow to it like a long maxi. For the rest of the fam, have a go at using a variety of textures like linens, waffled materials and chunky knits for winter.

COLOURS
You can’t go wrong with neutral/earthy tones. These colours are timeless and work well with every backdrop. It puts more of a focus on the connection with your family which is what we are capturing.

TRY TO AVOID
Steer clear of multiple bold patterns that clash, dressing everyone in the same thing (white t-shirts and jeans), fluro colours or large distracting logos. Dads don’t need to ‘dress up’ in business clothes. Chinos and a relaxed linen button up or basic tee works perfectly. For in home sessions no shoes looks nice and natural.

CLIENT WARDROBE
I have invested in a range of stunning dresses in various sizes that I know photograph well and are flattering for all shapes. My clients have access to this exclusive selection of garments to wear at their photoshoot with me. I have mostly chosen dresses that are wearable across multiple sizes. If you’d like me to bring a few dresses along to the shoot for you to wear, let me know. Every garment is washed and steamed between each use.

STILL STUCK?
If you’re still umming and ahhing check out my Pinterest boards HERE for some serious inspo! Flick me a message if you want a second opinion or you need a hand deciding. But most of all make sure you and your family are comfortable. I can’t wait to make some truly beautiful images for your family to cherish forever.

After your session

I will cull your images down to the best of the best (usually around 60+) and get to work on editing and uploading them to your private online gallery within 3 weeks of your session.

Once you’ve received the gallery link from me I know you might be tempted to have a sneaky scroll but I encourage you to wait until you can get the whole fam together and pop it up on the big screen.

Next you get to decide which package you are going to purchase and once payment is made you'll have a full month to select the specific digital files and print items you want to use to fill that collection.

Here’s a peak into the print store

I hope this guide answers any questions or hesitations you have but if there’s anything else, please let me know. I’m here to help.

I can't wait to create some beautiful images with you.
